Dr. Charafeddine is a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, and a certified professional in Newborn Individualized Developmental Care Assessment Program (NIDCAP). Before joining the AUB faculty she held the position of Associate Professor at Indiana University In Indianapolis IN, then the Acting Director of Pediatrics and Head of Neonatology at Clemenceau Medical Center in Beirut. Dr. Charafeddine is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Neonatology. She is the Director of the Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship program and is actively involved in teaching fellows, residents and medical students. She has established the Neonatal Resuscitation Education Program at AUBMC and is a member of the National Neonatal Resuscitation Initiative lead by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. In the Neonatal Intensive Care unit (NICU), Dr. Charafeddine has established a Developmental Care and Early Intervention Program to promote the development of premature and at risk infants. Furthermore, to maintain a continuum of care, Dr. Charafeddine oversees the Neonatology Continuity Clinic where NICU graduates are followed after discharge. Along the same lines, Dr. Charafeddine is a UNICEF regional consultant for the "Care for Child Development" initiative; she has served as a technical advisor for World Health Organization (WHO) on the nurturing care framework and early child development in the region. Dr. Charafeddine is a member of the National Collaborative Perinatal Neonatal Network (NCPNN); as such she has collaborated with the March of Dimes, Center for Disease Control (CDC) and WHO on multiple projects. Her work revolves around perinatal and neonatal health, developmental care and ultra-early intervention, early child development, developmental assessments and developmental outcome of premature infants.
