Bio: Dr. Shamseddine is currently Professor of Clinical Medicine and Director of Gastrointestinal / Genitourinary cancer program at Hematology - Oncology Division and Basile Cancer Institute at the American University of Beirut beside being the division head for 17 years( Oct.2000-Nov 2017). Dr Shamseddine graduated in 1981 and completed his training in medicine and medical oncology in 1988.
Professor Shamseddine served as a Chair of the hospital committee on cancer for more than 10 years as well as the Director of the Tumur Registry at the Medical Center and the Data Management and Clinical Research Unit at NKBCI. He was also appointed for the position of Vice President of the National Cancer Registry (NCR) from 2005-2010. Dr. Shamseddine is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ASCO and ESMO) and is Founder and Chair of the Advisory Board of Arab Collaborative Hematology-Oncology Group (ACHOG).He also served as president of the Lebanese Society of Medical Oncology(LSMO 2006-2008) and chair of European Arab Society of Oncology Prostatic Group in Lebanon(2010-2013).
Dr. Shamseddine has published more than 200 papers in peer-review journals. His research interests include epidemiology of cancer in Lebanon, breast cancer(epidemiology and platinum therapy) , gastro-intestinal and prostatic cancers. He also published a book reporting the trends in cancer at the American University of Beirut over 20 years (1983–2003). In 2012 Dr. Shamseddine was elected as a fellow of Royal College of Physician, FRCP (LONDON) In June 2020, he was awarded the title of faculty member of the College of the European School of Oncology (ESCO).
In October 2012 he was appointed as director of the Data Base(2012-present) and Clinical research Unit(2012-2017), Basile Cancer Institute at the American University of Beirut Medical Center.
