My study of higher education in the Arab World and the MENA is now in print, through AUCPress, Cairo, New York, 2020: John Waterbury, Missions Impossible: Higher Education and Policymaking in the Arab World.
The study focuses mainly on public, tertiary education and the policy environment that shapes it. I link higher education policy to the macro-political environment, educated youth unemployment, and the scope for dealing with macro-economic crises. Research and writing were completed before the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic.
