Earth sciences

Obtained the B.Sc. from University of Damascus in 1967; MSc. from the American University of Beirut in 1972 and PhD from the University of California at Davis in 1977. After spending one year as assistant professor at California State University - Fresno, joined the AUB technical team in Saudi Arabia as a senior soil scientist at the Regional Agriculture and Water Research Center in Riyadh from 1978-1988. Then joined the private sector to become the director of the R&D at the National fertilizer Company in Riyadh (NAFCO). Under my technical supervision (NAFCO) was the first company to produce compound fertilizers as granular, soluble powder, suspension and liquids in Saudi Arabia and the region. Joined AUB as an Associate Professor in July 1998 and in 2004 was promoted to the professor rank. Conducted research in the field of soil science and in cooperation with GIZ and Ministry of Agriculture, mainly LARI. Introduced the No-Till farming system to Lebanon. This project won the Milano 2015 Expo award for good environmental practices. Published many articles in peer reviewed journals, two chapters in Encyclopedia of Life Support system (EOLSS) under the auspices of UNESCO, co-authored two manuals published by FAO and several chapters in published books, in addition to responsibilities at the university and providing technical consultancies to National and International organizations, in addition to private investors in Africa and the region.
